Introducing the Five33 ZigZag Racing Frame
Built for speed, protection, and simplicity all in one package.
Design
The goal was simple. Break all the rules.
Complex locking mechanism? No. The Zigzag is comprised of 4 pieces of carbon. Top plate, Bottom plate, and 2 arms. It's easy to build, easy to maintain, and just works.
Hefty Price point? No. Chris and Pawel made it clear early on this frame would be the best, built for the best, at the best price point on the market. $45 Dollars make this one of the most accessible racing frames on the market.
M3 Hardware? No. In the original prototypes made of M3 hardware, the Zigzag did not achieve the performance we wanted. Vibrations and bent standoffs made for a poor experience. Headsup recommended we give M4 hardware a try, and it completely changed the game. No stripped screws, no bent standoffs, the zigzag comes standard with Titanium M4 hardware making it incredibly strong and light.
Exposed Electronics? No. Electronics prices have skyrocketed here in the US and we felt it was important they were protected. The Zigzag comes standard with a top and bottom plate wide enough to protect your stack with ease.
90 Degree Boomerang Arms? No. Typically in a boomerang arm frame the arms must be exactly 90 degrees to each other for maximum strength. This didn't give us the geometry we wanted, so we went to our manufacturer with a requirement for custom 57 degree layup carbon giving full length fibers down the arms both directions.
Back Story
This is NOT the first staggered arm or "Z" frame, in fact Timothy Ichiyasu flew a Z frame 7+ years ago for the same reasons we are today. Simplicity and Clean Air. This project was started back up by 3 INCREDIBLE pilots. Mason "Hyper" Lively, Chris M, And Pawelos. Chris M and Pawel were incredibly excited about the concept and worked with Mason to get a rough draft made over a year ago. The project was then graciously passed off to the Five33 team where we worked closely with world class pilots such as Killian, MinChan Kim, and HeadsupFPV to really bring this idea to life. The ZigZag wouldn't be what it is today without Timothy, Mason, Pawel or Chris M. Make sure to say thank you for their contributions to awesomeness.
Summary
The ZigZag has impressed us in so many ways. It's light, has incredible flight performance, and is beautifully simple. The back arms are raised for clean air to all 4 props, but not overlapping for maximum efficiency. It will be available world wide, used by top pilots industry wide, and accessible to pilots of any skill level thanks to its reduced price point. We cannot wait for you to try the ZigZag.
